This installation of interstitial studio studies and fragments was installed as a part of 12 Openings, an artist-curated, evolving exhibition that took over a suburban lawn at Compound Yellow in Oak Park, IL in November of 2019. The exhibition built up over twelve weeks as each featured artist invited the next, culminating in a group exhibition that no one participant could forecast. This unique format made space for experimentation and for allowing for work to change in the Chicago elements as well as unexpected interaction between artworks.

At the time, I was making small artworks that felt like seeds in my studio - minuscule, full of potential, and the need to grow in complexity. In times like these, the phrase “like a gardener, like a garden” comforted me. I just have to plant, water, and wait.
